Professional carpet cleaning companies use several cleaning methods to clean a carpet for both residential and commercial. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. But how would you really know which one is best for your carpet?

We have different views on the methods we should be using to clean our carpet. Most people feel that steam cleaning is the best method to bring their carpets back to life.

Here are the 7 Types of Carpet Cleaning Methods Used by Professionals

  1. Hot Water Extraction Cleaning: A professional cleaner will steam clean your carpet using their state-of-the-art cleaning equipment. At Carpet Cleaning Kings, we use quality hot water extraction (steam cleaning) equipment, so we can ensure high levels of heat and suction, enhancing results. No expense has been spared with our top of the line large truck mounted steam extraction machines and high heat powerful portable carpet cleaning machines.
  2. Dry Cleaning: This is one of the latest cleaning methods and has gained increasing popularity and approvals by leading carpet manufacturers because of its effective cleaning performance and convenience as it doesn’t require drying time. This involves the use of specialized machines to clean carpets with recently developed chemical technologies that permit no-moisture, or very low moisture cleaning, resulting in carpet beautification, and removal of stains, dirt, sand, and allergen.
  3. Carpet Shampooing: Shampooing of carpet may seem to clean heavily soiled carpet, the technology’s disadvantage is it leaves behind high amount of wet foam residues in the carpet and takes a long time to dry, becomes sticky when it dries because no rinsing is done after shampooing and rapid re-soiling of carpet, which makes this method less popular than the others.
  4. DRY FOAM: This method is very similar to shampooing in that relies on the aggressiveness of the brushing action, which is usually counter-rotating cylindrical brushes. The only difference is that the solution is whipped into a foam and applied right before the brushes instead of a liquid as in shampooing.
  5. Preconditioning: Applying preconditioning agents to the carpet hot early in the process allows time to bond with the soil particles and easier to remove afterward. This helps to loosen up stubborn dirt. The choice of preconditioning agent depends on the carpet ‘s fabric. You may want to use alkaline solutions when working with synthetic fiber carpets and a mildly acidic solution like diluted acetic acid on woolen carpets.
  6. Encapsulation: Encapsulation uses synthetic detergents as a base that will crystallize into powder form when dries. Early attempts at encapsulation formulations were problematic, with carpets becoming rapidly re-soiled after cleaning because any residues left behind would continue to attract dirt. Professional cleaners apply encapsulation products using specialized applicators or a compression sprayer. After the detergent dries, a vacuum which usually forms part of the cleaning process sucks up the polymer and dirt crystals. Although these attach themselves to carpet fibers, the bond is very weak, and the residue breaks away from the fibers easily. This cleaning method has overtaken carpet shampooing technology as the former uses less water during cleaning which results in shorter drying time compared to the carpet shampooing.
  7. Bonnet Cleaning: Using this type of system requires a skill. It produces good surface cleaning result as the process mainly involve cleaning the top part of the carpet fiber using a heavy duty motorised machine with a spinning pad that has been immersed with cleaning solution to absorb dirt from the carpet surface. This type of cleaning has severe limitations. It only cleans to about 1/8 of an inch deep, and it will certainly leave residue behind. We would only use it on relatively thin but very robust carpeting. On the wrong type of carpet, it will damage the pile, and it will rub dirt in deeper instead of cleaning it away. We also recommend following up with an antimicrobial agent to sanitize the carpet properly.

At Carpet Cleaning Kings, we use heavy duty.
